In a beautiful old home complete with plaster walls, intricate mouldings and tall ceilings, we designed a fresh and simple second floor playroom for a wonderful young family. With a mix of mint greens and deep blues, the room now has a soothing and relaxed atmosphere, perfect for quiet play.

As soon as I laid eyes on the intricate baseboards and trim in this beautiful home, I knew they had to be painted! We chose a muted minty green to contrast the white walls, and applied a stunning layered striped wallpaper on the ceiling to help draw the eyes up. The room had an underutilized closet so we carried the same mint green paint colour into the closet to create a special little hangout nook. A scalloped wall sconce was mounted with the use of a rechargeable light bulb — this is a great way to add style and function without the requirements of electrical work.

We repurposed their existing play couch and added open and closed storage solutions from IKEA, to provide ample space for storing away toys and books. We added a few pops of deeper blue with a two-tone ceiling light and pennant garland and I love the added depth this brings to the room design. A plaid rug provides a cozy space to spread out with toys and trucks. I just adore how this playroom came together; it’s so bright and minty fresh!

“The playroom looks AMAZING. I audibly gasped when I walked into the room. We all love it so much!”
